Eine Schnitzeljagd im Hyperraum
Manchmal gehen Geschichten wie Lieder um die Welt – und CDs auch.
Vor kurzem erreichte uns eine Anfrage, ob es vielleicht genaue Notationen der wunderbaren Musik auf der CD Sephardic Cantata von Hans Samuel gebe.
Der Fragende sei ein Spezialist für Musik der sephardischen Spielart der jüdischen Kultur, und er sammele überall Veröffentlichungen zu diesem Thema.
Die CD Sephardic Cantata habe er kürzlich erworben.
Was wir noch so für sephardische Kompositionen aufgeführt hätten, es sei sehr interessant für ihn, er würde alles sammeln und dokumentieren.
Unheimliche Sache, das: Denn ein Verkauf einer Sephardic Cantata CD ist in der Verlagsunterlagen nicht dokumentiert, sodass schnell einige Fragen gestellt und dann auch beantwortet wurden.
Offenbar gibt es eine Online-Gebraucht-Medienplattform, die seltene Kostbareiten weltweit anbietet. Darüber war auch die besagte CD aus dem Jahre 2019 zu finden.
Aber wie kam sie dorthin – denn die Bemusterung des Verlages richtete sich an andere Adressaten …
Vermutlich genau daher landete die CD möglicherweise in einem dieser öffentlichen Bücherschränke, abgestoßen von einer Person, die die Musik nicht ausreichend mochte, aber aus Respekt dafür sorgte, dass sie nicht sofort vernichtet wurde.
Das Internet erledigte den Rest: Schrottsammler und Wiederverkäufer dokumentierten nun die CD auf einem anderen Kontinent, und wenn auch der Komponist Hans Samuel nicht dorthin floh, sondern mit viel Glück in den später so genannten Staat Israel gelangte, hören heute Menschen aus aller Welt seine Musik, die vermutlich ansonsten verschollen gewesen wäre.
Das war nicht gebeamt, es war kein echter Hyperantrieb beteiligt: aber die Musik hat sich durchgesetzt, wie eine Idee, zum Beispiel von Frans Masereel … |

A scavenger hunt in hyperspace
Sometimes stories go round the world like songs – and CDs too.
We recently received an enquiry as to whether there might be exact notations of the wonderful music on the CD Sephardic Cantata by Hans Samuel.
The enquirer is a specialist in the music of the Sephardic variety of Jewish culture and collects publications on this subject everywhere.
He had recently acquired the Sephardic Cantata CD.
What other Sephardic compositions we had performed was very interesting to him and he would collect and document everything.
That’s a scary thing, because the sale of a Sephardic Cantata CD is not documented in the publisher’s records, so a few questions were quickly asked and then answered.
Apparently, there is an online used media platform that offers rare costumes worldwide. The CD in question from 2019 could also be found there.
But how did it get there – because the publisher’s sampling was aimed at other recipients …
Presumably that’s why the CD ended up in one of those public bookcases, discarded by someone who didn’t like the music enough but made sure it wasn’t immediately destroyed out of respect.
The Internet did the rest: scrap collectors and resellers now documented the CD on another continent, and even though the composer Hans Samuel did not flee there, but was lucky enough to end up in what was later called the State of Israel, people from all over the world are now listening to his music, which would presumably otherwise have been lost.
